Original Release: 5/20/2020
Scammers are contacting people claiming to be tracing COVID-19 contacts.
While legitimate health agencies, including the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and the Cleveland Department of Public Health are calling people to complete contact tracing, they will never ask for your Social Security or Bank Account information.
Do not click on links or respond to texts saying you have been exposed to COVID-19.
We initiated a robo-call last evening with regard to a new variety of SCAMS specific to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic.
First - and most importantly - NO company or agency is permitted to be conducting door-to-door solicitation of ANY product or service.
Additionally, THERE IS NO SERVICE coming door-to-door conducting Coronavirus testing - no such testing even exists!
Again, NO ONE is permitted to be knocking on your door in the City of Lyndhurst, Ohio during this outbreak so DO NOT ANSWER!
If you see anyone soliciting door-to-door in your neighborhood please call our Police Department non-emergency number at (440) 473-5116 ☎.
Also, NO ONE should be calling you to ask for your personal information! The government does not do this. The real government does not need to do this. Companies you bank with do not need to do this!
It is my sincerest hope that our residents will continue to remain healthy, look out for one another and remain cautiously distant but helpful to one another.
Mayor Patrick A. Ward
City of Lyndhurst, Ohio
