On Sunday, December 10, 2017 at approximately 4:41 p.m., a Lyndhurst police officer was on patrol when his unit's License Plate Reader (LPR) alerted to a stolen vehicle. The car was a 2017 Hyundai Elantra belonging to Hertz Rental Car and taken from Warren, Ohio. Officers monitored the now parked vehicle. When the three occupants returned, they were arrested. While searching the car, officers located two handguns, both loaded. One of the guns had been stolen from East Cleveland.
Arrested were one male, 18, from Cleveland; one male, 17,from Cleveland; and one female, 17, also from Cleveland:
Charges are pending and the case remains under investigation.
These arrests highlight the hidden dangers that police officers face, the benefits of LPR technology, and may have prevented a violent crime.
