From Lyndhurst Animal Control: Baby Deer
Released: 5/19/2014
Some residents may observe baby deer which they believe to be abandoned or injured.
Moms only feed their young two or three times per day, then stay away from them in a defense measure designed to keep attention off the little ones. Baby deer do not move around much which also helps protect against dangerous attention.
If Animal Control receives a complaint of an apparently injured or abandoned baby deer, they will generally not intervene unless the animal has reportedly not moved or been tended to by mom for 24 to 48 hours.
