March 14, 2012: Civil Service Commission MINUTES: The Civil Service Commission of the City of Lyndhurst met in Special Session on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Lyndhurst Municipal Center, 5301 Mayfield Road. Members Present: Commissioners: R Schmidlin, Chairman; R D Patete, R A Sweeney Others Present: P T Murphy, Director of Law; C J White, Secretary; R Porrello, Chief of Police Correspondence from Mayor Cicero dated January 10, 2012, regarding certification of names for patrolmen in the Lyndhurst Police Department. January 10, 2012 Lyndhurst Civil Service Commission 5301 Mayfield Road Lyndhurst OH 44124 Commissioners: This is to advise that the Lyndhurst Police Department will have positions available for two patrolmen. Therefore, I am hereby notifying you of the positions to be filled and requesting that you certify to me the names and addresses of individuals from the original appointment Eligibility List for the Lyndhurst Police Department. I would appreciate receiving the requested list as soon as possible. Thank you for your assistance and cooperation. Sincerely, Joseph M. Cicero, Jr. Mayor JMC:cjw c: Chief Porrello Mr. Schmidlin stated that the twelve (12) candidates below have had background checks, and have been reviewed by the Commission. Mr. Patete stated that some of the candidates have reached their thirty-fifth (35) birthday. According to the ORC, Section 124.41, candidates, upon appointment, cannot have met their thirty-fifth (35) birthday. Chief Porrello stated that given the fact that no candidate is beyond a year or so over the age of thirty-five (35), he is not opposed to changing the age requirement. It was moved by Mr. Schmidlin, seconded by Mr. Patete, that the Civil Service rule, Rule III Section 4, regarding the maximum age requirement for the original appointment for police officer, be waived for this list. The question was put to a voice vote and passed unanimously. Motion carried. Discuss the number of names to be certified in response to correspondence from Mayor. It was moved by Mr. Schmidlin, seconded by Ms. Sweeney that the following twelve (12) candidates be certified for the position of Patrolman:

It was moved by Mr. Schmidlin, seconded by Ms. Sweeney to extend the Original Appointment List in the Lyndhurst Police Department, established March 18, 2010, for a period of ninety (90) days. The question was put to a voice vote and passed unanimously. Motion carried. It was moved by Mr. Schmidlin, seconded by Ms. Sweeney that the meeting be adjourned. The question was put to a voice vote and passed unanimously. Motion carried, meeting adjourned at 9:10 a.m. |
